Unilever pledge to use only palm oil certified as sustainable by 2015

9th May 20081 Comment

Unilever has pledged to use only palm oil certified as sustainable by 2015, while also supporting calls for a moratorium on further deforestation for palm oil in Indonesia.

In ensuring Unilever’s supplies come from sustainable sources, the multinational producer of food, beverages, cleaning agents and personal care products hopes to take a leading role in establishing a certified supply chain for palm oil production.

I commend Unilever for at least saying the right thing… but unfortunately at the rate things are going, by 2015, the entire forest will be gone in Borneo. Unilever needs to act quicker on this– or they will face more pressure from activists. This is not a game– we’re talking about the fate of the planet. Unilever– along with a host of other industrial giants– is literally altering the face of the earth– and contributing to massive climatic disasters as a result.
100,000 dead in Myanmar…. food riots all over South Asia… On this one, the corporations have no choice but to relent. Otherwise there may not be anyone left to by their products.

Save the forests… Save the planet… Reach out and save the orangutans… Today– not in 2015! http://redapes.org
