The Economics of ISO 14001

13th January 2009 by Alex Briggs1 Comment

BT Germany has just become the 5th BT country to be certified against the global environmental management system standard, ISO 14001, following a four-day external audit by Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance (LRQA).

BT Germany quality manager Jens Krause said,

We carried out a survey of our major customers that showed around ten per cent wanted us to achieve ISO14001,” he said.
Their business is worth around €84 million in revenue. In Germany, we wanted to play our part in BT’s global carbon-reduction strategy, but it also made good financial and business sense for us.
As well as helping to retain business, we believe the improvements will save more than €900,000 each year, and cut our
carbon footprint by 12 tonnes.

Thats a great news to hear, also it seems you have a great respect towards your customers, considering ten percent of the customers view you have applied for ISO 14001, that is a good thing you did, it also benefits you and the environment.
