The EB has committed to build a CDM that is fit for a post-2012 world

Martin Hession, was this week appointed as the new Chair of the CDM executive board to drive the improvements requested of them at the UN climate talks in Cancun last year.
Those improvements included
- Improve the transparency and consistency of the regulatory framework of the CDM by continuing to revise its official documentation.
- Provide greater clarity regarding the timing and implications of the introduction of new rules and decisions; and adhere to the principle that any decision, guidance, tool and rule shall not be applied retroactively.
- Develop and implement procedures with a view to enhancing direct communication with stakeholders and project proponents in relation to registration, issuance and methodologies work streams.
- Continue to monitor the activities of DOE’s, in particular with regard to the timelines for the validation and verification processes.
- Consider the issue of materiality with a view to recommending a draft decision on this matter for COP17.
- Develop standardized baselines in consultation with relevant DNA’s, the application of which shall be at the discretion of the host country’s DNA and report to COP17.
Hession, when talking with Point Carbon earlier this week stated that “The CDM is operating in conditions of uncertainty regarding post-2012. But our mandate is to work on immediate business which is set to grow this year, and on the improvements that will deliver a CDM fit for the future,”
