But what you see more and more is that sustainability issues like food security, like child labour, like environmental issues, they become more and more important.

I believe that employees must not only be made aware of the big picture, but must also understand the vision and objectives of the organization and their responsibility vis-à-vis food safety. My experience has also shown that a well-thought-out management system to help achieve this objective is crucial.

Training plays a critical role in assuring food safety. We can take our cues from recent work done by the GFSI. With the objective to improve food safety systems across the globe, the GFSI developed a tool kit to help food suppliers meet GFSI recognised certification schemes.
