Biofuels have a limited ability to replace fossil fuels and should not be regarded as a “silver bullet” solution to reducing transport emissions, British scientists warned today.

The UK government’s support for biofuels risks failing to deliver significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and could be environmentally damaging, the Royal Society, the UK’s leading scientific academy, said yesterday, writes Ed Crooks . The society called on the UK and the EU to reform biofuels policy to give more support to fuels that delivered greater cuts in emissions.
