Supply Chain Risks, One Year Later
21st September 2007 by Alex Briggs
A Forbes article on growing supply chain risks, published a year ago this week, stated:
The three most cited disruptions to their supply chains were the supply of raw materials, the performance of supply chain partners (specifically in delivery and quality) and volatile fuel prices.
The recent cases of Mattel and others have highlighted the performance of supply chain partners as the most relevant of the three at the moment.
Businesses need to fully understand the individual elements of their supply chain as well as the interaction between them in order to better understand and manage the risks. Few global companies are in a position to undertake that process themselves.
The advantages and credibility of an impartial, independent third party evaluating and assessing supply chains far outweigh the costs.
