Organic is no more healthy

20th September 20061 Comment

The traditional association between organic foods and health is being steadily eroded, and replaced, with greater consumer association with the environmental benefits.

The latest nail in the coffin of organic health associations is the Food Standards Agency’s report into organic milk.

While organically-produced milk is definitely different, the greater proportion of short-chain fatty acids produce no significant human health benefit.

The implication of this shift for organic producers and standards-bodies is to focus increasingly on measuring the environmental consequences of organic production: biodiversity, carbon emissions and sustainability and communicate these outcomes to stakeholders.
