Live from day 2 of the Carbon Forum Asia Conference in Singapore

28th October 2010 by Madlen King

Madlen King, LRQA’s Global Head of Climate Change and Sustainability, filed this report following the second and final day of Carbon Forum Asia Conference in Singapore.

Uncertainty and guarded optimism rule Day 2 of the Carbon Forum Asia

Day 2 started with discussions on Phase III of the EU ETS and the EU’s indecision regarding acceptance of CER’s post 2010.

The forestry sector was next up on the agenda with uncertainty around the scheme REDD being the hot topic. The uncertainty is being driven by party changes and changes in demand.

The day closed with messages and pleas for CDM reform and the design of new mechanisms to enable learning from past mistakes to allow for practicable solutions in the future.

Day 2 was summed up in one speakers honest statement “I’d like to sleep for the next 3 years and awake to a solution for international climate change mitigation and adaptation’ response.”

COP 16 was clearly on everyone’s mind with the conference now less than a month away.
