ISO 50001 certification helps cut Repsol’s CO2 emissions by 15%

28th January 2013

Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) has recently certified Repsol’s Puertollano refinery (Spain) to the international energy management standard ISO 50001.

ISO 50001 aims to improve energy efficiency, reduce costs and greenhouse gas emissions (GHG).  About 60% of the operating costs of the Puertollano refinery relate to energy consumption, so the 15% reduction in GHG emissions post ISO 50001 implementation represents a significant cost saving for the refinery.

ISO 50001 forms part of Repsol’s commitment to use energy efficiently in their facilities in order to preserve natural resources, reduce air emissions and help mitigate the effects of climate change.  Read more here.
