Is IRIS certification a good idea?

24th January 2007 by Simon Emeny

In June 2006 the “International Railway Industry Standard” was published. This standard is promoted by UNIFE but is primarily aimed at suppliers to the 4 major European train builders. The standard replaces the generic supplier audit process and (of course) transfers the costs to the supplier.

I’ve heard that the standard will now be revised by June 2007 (so within its first 12 months) and that some of the requirements may be different.

With the added impact of the RISAS standard on suppliers to the UK rail maintenance network, a different standard covering similar principles to IRIS but in a different way, I am watching developments with interest!
