International acceptance of Food Safety Standard ISO 22000 set to grow
9th February 20092 Comments
More then 540 delegates came from 44 countries to attended the 9th Annual CIES Food Safety Conference which took place from 4th – 5th February 2009 in Barcelona. Lloyds Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) was a premium sponsor.
Breaking news at the event was the submission of the ISO 22000 / PAS 220 certification scheme for GFSI (retailer) approval. This news was presented by Cor Groenveld in his role as Chairman of the Foundation for Food Safety Certification, the owner of this scheme. This foundation is the current owner of the GFSI approved Dutch HACCP scheme.
The reactions on this initiative were very positive, especially by almost all large food manufacturers (Danone, Kraft, Coca Cola, Unilever, Nestlé). It is expected when this scheme (with the name FSSC 22000) is GFSI approved that the international acceptance for ISO-22000 will grow rapidly.
This conference showed that the food supply chain is still a fast growing market for our training, audit and certification services.
Next year the conference will be held for the first time out of Europe. The 10th CIES Global Food Safety Conference in 2010 will be held in Washington from 3-5th February.
