Impact of Food Waste and possible uses

A CNN article has taken a holistic look at the causes and effects of global food waste:

According to the UN Food Programme, US food waste could:

satisfy “every empty stomach” in Africa

Some other key facts from the article:

The US and Japan waste up to 50% of all their food

the entire food supply chain in the UK contributes 20 percent of its greenhouse gas emissions

if we stopped throwing out edible food, the impact it would have on CO2 emissions would be the equivalent of taking 1 in 5 cars off the road

The second half of the article looks at possible uses for the all of biodegradable waste, including turning it into power.
