Further Electrification of the British Rail Network reduces CO2

The British government has committed to spend £1.1 billion to electrify more of its rail network to speed up journeys and reduce carbon emissions, reports Reuters.
Britain trails far behind its other European counterparts with only approximately one third of its rail network that is electrified.
These proposals will upgrade the lines between London and Swansea and between Liverpool and Manchester, where diesel trains currently operate.
