The French government are considering implementing a carbon tax commencing in 2010.
An expert panel appointed by the government has proposed a tax of €32 per tonne for every tonne of carbon dioxide emitted by all businesses and people across France that are not already obligated by the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS). The French economic minister Christine Lagarde, however has stated that a tax of around €15 would be more appropriate.
The government is considering the introduction of the carbon tax within its 2010 budget, which is expected to be set out by October.
