72% of Americans want the federal government to establish new safety standards for the growing, harvesting, processing and distribution of fresh fruits and vegetables even if they increase costs, according to a national survey commissioned by the Produce Safety Project (PSP).

A new report from the Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture at Iowa State University suggests that US consumers believe that local food is safer than that from further afield.
ISO 22005:2007, published in the summer of 2007, sets out the requirements for standardised food and feed traceability — from grower to animals, and from farmers to shop shelves.
