Food safety breaches rise 24% in 2009 compared to 2007

An article on ‘Channel news Asia’ look st at the recent increase in the number of food safety breaches involving processed food.
The Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) said the number of such breaches rose to 219 last year, an increase of 24 per cent from 2007.
The cases involved food contamination, food containing banned substances and additives exceeding the legal limits.
AVA said the increase is a result of more food being imported, requiring testing.
