Environmental certification for meetings

11th January 2007

Yesterday saw the launch of MeetGreen, who offer certification of the environmental friendliness of corporate meetings.

According to the outline of their methodology, they investigate everything from location to food, saying:

The framework for the program is based on the Minimum Green Guidelines recommended for meeting industry sectors by the Convention Industry Council’s Green Meetings Task Force. These guidelines were developed by a consensus-based committee including representatives of the meeting industry, government agencies and the environmental community and approved by the Convention Industry Council Board of Directors. It is important to note, while other industries may measure the metrics in categories of energy efficiency, water conservation, air quality and waste management, the meeting industry organizes their approach to those measurements differently.

Is the demand for micro-certification growing? More importantly, do you hand out new notepads at every meeting?
