Cor Groenveld links FSSC 22000 with Brazil’s food supply chain – LRQA Food Forum Brazil – Blog 2
1st September 2011
I am in Sao Paulo Brazil now where I will participate in 2 exiting events. Thursday, September 1 is the LRQA Food Forum and Friday, September 2 the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) organises a GFSI Focus Day Latin America.
This is exiting as it shows how important the food industry in Brazil considers food safety and quality. At the LRQA Food Forum I will deliver a presentation on the activities and developments of the Global Food Safety Initiative and I will give an update on the current status of the Food Safety Management certification scheme FSSC 22000. This scheme uses ISO 22000 and sector specific standards for prerequisite programmes (like the PAS 220 and PAS 223). At the GFSI Focus day I will attend a panel discussion of representatives of GFSI recognized certification schemes.
It is good to be back in Brazil. It is a beautiful and dynamic country where the food industry is strongly growing. My first visit was more then 10 years ago when I did a Food Safety certification assessment with one of my Brazilian colleagues of a very large orange juice concentrate manufacturer. And it is clear that Brazil and other countries in South America are very important for the manufacturing and export of food. Therefore it is good to see that events like the two of this week are organised and visited by a large number of representatives of several parts of the food supply chain. And I hope my participation and presentation will be a good learning experience as well for the participants but certainly also for me.
