Updated Climate Change Quotes

13th September 2007 by Alex Briggs1 Comment

The climate change debate is remaining firmly on the front pages.

Here are some quotes from industry and government and NGO’s that indicate the seriousness of the situation:

“The global threat from climate change is now clearer than ever. The whole economy has to change.”

Sir Terry Leahy, Tesco Chief Executive

“Climate change and the impact that it will have on key industries such as agriculture, tourism, energy, transport and insurance, is as important as interest rate risk and exchange risk.”

Henri de Castries, Chairman of the Management Board and Chief Executive of AXA

“In the future I expect a company’s carbon statement to be as prominent as its financial statement. That’s because investors are demanding reliable information about a company’s global carbon footprint, as well what it’s doing to reduce its CO2 emissions. Proper financial reporting is a no-brainer. Carbon reporting must be the same.”

Ian Pearson, former Minister of State for Climate Change and Environment at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs

“In terms of allowing consumers to trust the choices before them, first of all is that there is a number of consumers, approximately half in terms of the US and UK combined, who would support choice reduction. That is actually removing unhelpful choices from the shelves.”

Philip Monaghan, Chief Executive, AccountAbility
“The clearest way of demonstrating to your customers is by having some form of programme in place which is independently verified or acknowledged and used by other large companies which demonstrates what they are doing about providing a lower carbon supply or service to the consumer.”
Jon Price, Carbon Neutral Company
