CIES Food Safety Conference 2009

Event: 6th February 2009 – 8th February 2009

Country: Spain
City: Barcelona
Event website: www.ciesfoodsafety.com

The CIES Food safety Conference will take place in Barcelona, Spain from 6 – 8 February 2009. It is a unique annual event, bringing together over 500 food safety specialists from over 50 countries.

This year the event will take a deep dive into the challenges of managing food safety against the backdrop of globalisation and its impact, challenges and opportunities. Delegates will explore this through plenaries, practical case studies, round table and parallel sessions.

The conference will take a detailed look at issues such as problem solving, transparency (especially when systems fail), improved efficiency in logistics and IT, and new agricultural techniques, including genetics. It will discuss how these can contribute to a safer supply chain and improved consumer confidence, particularly through the consolidation of the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI).

Speakers will also examine the socio-economic issues which have driven the anti-globalisation debate, including the widening gap between rich and poor, the pressure on labour standards, and the invisibility of small producers and particularly workers – very many of them women – living in poverty.

During the conference, Cor Groenveld, Global Product Manager Food Services – LRQA, will give a speech about: “Certification in the food supply chain: what will the future bring?”
