This Business Week article takes a look at corporations and the role they are playing in helping their local communities and citizens get back on their feet after a natural disaster.
UPS, Accenture and FEMA pooled their resources together to help found the Aidmatrix Foundation, The Aidmatrix Foundation, a nonprofit group that uses information technology to ensure donations are quickly dispatched to those in greatest need was founded by i2 Software. UPS, Accenture and FEMA sponsored the building of the “Aidmatrix Network(R)” for Humanitarian Relief. .
The article also talks a lot about the business continuity lessons learned after Katrina. IBM and their work in Turkey following the 1999 earthquake.
Taken from this article’s perspective, Business Continuity is truly a joint ownership project. Another example of the importance that business continuity is beginning to play for global corporations. BS 25999, the new standard for business continuity, is starting to interest brands around the world after a strong start in the UK. With the increase in natural disasters around the globe, businesses are starting to think in very different terms about their future, and of the future of the community where they conduct their business.
