While the United States enjoys the safest, most abundant food supply in the world, some consumers are questioning this fact in the wake of recent meat, produce and processed food recalls. Bolstering consumer confidence is the responsibility of every stakeholder in the value chain.
This conference will bring food industry stakeholders together to gain input on what a comprehensive publicly available, third party food safety audit criteria should encompass, characterize the technical and operational information that will assist the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in determining its infrastructure needs, as well as the process for evaluating third party certification programs in order to assist FDA in moving towards broader recognition of voluntary third party certification programs.
The meeting will also look at defining the best approach to establishing and harmonizing a global food safety system recognizing the existing audit schemes used commercially today and verifying the proper implementation of food safety systems by suppliers amongst other important issues.
