BCFA creates code of best practice

The British Contract Furnishing & Design Association is aiming to set a benchmark in environmental standards with a new code of best practice, Design Week reports.
Manufacturers and suppliers in the contract furnishing industry will be encouraged to conform to the new six-point code, which has been drawn up by the association’s environmental panel.
Members who comply with the code will earn the right to carry the BCFA Green World logo on stationery, websites, product literature and marketing material.
BCFA technical director Peter Smith stresses the importance of members being fully aware of the impact of their business on the environment.
The six key points cover corporate and personal commitment to sustainability, responsible sourcing of materials, measuring consumption and an environmental action plan.
Implementation of education and communication schemes and achievement of recognised standards such as BS 8555 and ISO 14001 will also be covered.
